The aim of this research project is to take a disarmament and arms control approach to emerging technologies. This includes investigation of what models of regulation are the most appropriate for the regulation of weapons systems derived from these technologies, as well as the study of advances in science and technology so that international treaties and other international agreements take these applications into account to ensure that they remain relevant and effective in the ‘changing world’. The ‘changing world’ includes changing international relations, globalisation (including changing industry practices), advances in science and technology and development of new (‘improved’) weapons systems.
